WHY JOIN THE ZURICH AND DISTRICT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE?
The mission of the Zurich and District Chamber of Commerce:
“To serve as the voice of business, to promote and enhance economic prosperity and quality of life in Zurich and area.”
Chamber Goals:
- To create and sustain reinforcing relationships among businesses and between business and the community
- To participate in the development of public policy as it effects the economic growth and development of the area
- To effectively express the views of the business community to appropriate levels of government, either directly or indirectly, i.e. via the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and other associations
- To promote private enterprise, business excellence and individual achievement
- To develop a strong membership base. This will provide the resources necessary to ensure a proper level of mem bership services and foster member involvement in the community

The Zurich and District Chamber of Commerce has been around since 1951 and has accomplished a great deal since then including;
- sponsorship of local sport teams and the Centennial Band
- lobbied and secured services of doctor, dentist and pharmacist which we still have
- lobbied and secured a motor vehicle office
- participated in organizing street name signs, house numbering, directional signs
- instituted the organization of Bluewater Rest Home and continue to sit on the board
- organized a trip to Switzerland for local politicians in 1969
- founding organization of the Zurich Bean Festival and continue to be part of the committee
- organized sauerkraut supper fund-raising efforts for 10 years
- trip of the month fundraising and contributed $15,000.00 to each of Bluewater Rest Home and Zurich Community Centre
- lobbied for natural gas services
- lobbied for provincial designation for highway #84
- lobbied for Liquor Control Board outlet
- organized Christmas decorating program and street beautification-flower boxes, benches etc
- organized service clubs and village to erect entrance signs and highway building signs
- lobbied for main street intersection “caution light”
- produces business brochure and pays for ads in Ontario Tourist magazines and booths
- participated in Bingo fund-raising for the municipality
- lobbied to keep schools open
- lobbied to keep a medical centre in Zurich now called the Bluewater Health Team
- lobbied to keep ambulance in Zurich
- ran first aid courses and a farmers market
- assisted Hay Township to form a dock at St. Joseph
- assisted with the Zurich’s Sesquicentennial celebration
- continue to fight for fair governance in the Municipality and County Levels
- Santa Claus Parade (now organized by the Lion’s Club) and continue to support it financially
- lobbied for a new community centre
- annual public school student award
- assist in advertising local events i.e. Fireman’s breakfast, Bean Festival, Zurich Fair, Santa Claus Parade both locally and provincially
- Organized purchase and erection of directional signage for community facilities (churches, schools, municipal administration, funeral home, community centre)
- Instituted action to purchase property in downtown Zurich to accommodate new library
- Organized Hwy directional signage at Hwy #21 & #84 with TODS Canada to promote visiting and touring “Zurich’s Downtown”
- Continue to work with the Municipal planner to improve Zurich’s downtown
- Planning quarterly newsletters to inform the public of our village’s successes
- Supported the Zurich Lutheran Church in refurbishing the Heritage Cemetery
- Managed the Villages on-line website
